Jul. 26th, 2003 @ 03:53 pm Look I have friends!
Take a look at this nifty graph that trythil's hard work spent on coding generates. You can right-click to zoom in and out, and left click and drag to scroll around the graph.

You too can generate such a thing(and update the database so that my graph doesn't look so bare) here.

It didn't look like this until a couple of days ago, when I finally became a paid member, and thus was allowed to use these much more stylin schemes. Definately worth the 25 bucks I spent on it.

You're by yourself cause you're not friends with any of my LJ friends. =P You could start stalking them if you're really bored, but some of them are scary.

Well the thing is that people have to login and get their information into the database. He hasn't written it so that it gathers the information by querying LJ yet(though I doubt that he ever will). Still, what you should do is get all of your friends to submit their information to make the neat looking graph.

Well, it's not difficult for me to just go through the Web and parse the information out of the compiled friends page, but:

(1) that layout is subject to sudden change; the protocol spec doesn't seem like it's going anywhere for a while, and if it does, I'm sure it'll be posted well in advance in the dev journals, and

(2) If LiveJournal's behavior over the past week or so is any indication, they could make do with less load :P

I might go and do that, though, but -- yeah -- I don't see it happening soon. Have another video I want to do :/

Bah, parsing the userinfo page for the friends list shouldn't really be all that difficult. A couple lines of Perl should do the trick. But this isn't my project, and I'm too lazy.

Besides, working on new amvs is more fun. It'll get you into more bets to lead you to wild and crazy hijinks.

Oh it's not difficult -- I've done it before for an IRC bot I did a few dozen moons ago...I'm just easily distracted and lazy :P

And there's nothing wrong with crazily stupid bets! Maybe if I keep up that insanity, I'll get into all the huge AMV contests in the US...

If you keep up with the insanity, you should make bets about what would happen when you win an amv contest. =P

I second that, your journal is sexay :o

Thanks for the plug, too. I'm re-working the graphing code; it's about to get a whole lot cleaner (hence niftier) ;)

Thanks, but it's really one of the various prewritten schemes for LJ if you have a paid account. Now if only I could make my web page look as spiffy as this. Maybe I'll just copy the layout to make a web page.

It's always good to plug random neat web links. Esp since my list of LJ friends is quite separate from the The new version does look much spiffier, but it looks as though you're just counting number of friends that a user has rather than the number of links that they have. Cause there are some people who are way out on a spoke who happen to be have my links connecting to them.

Another quick thing that would clean it up a bit is to add a line to make an ID with a single link to be put on the spiral arm with the other end of the link.

Yeah, I realized that I was doing the inverse of what I wanted to do with regards to sorting ;) Fixing that right now. It's a bit more complex than what I was doing, but at least it's right :P
